Sideshow: The Queer Literary Carnival was one of the best we've seen—I know, I say that every time, but each time is amazing in it's own way. This time, we had five readers talking about their experiences with school, growing up, and coming out again.
Loren Krywanczyk kicked off the night with a piece about transsexuals as teachers, and what it's like to teach middle school.
Tanya Paperny was up next with a piece about coming to a femme identity, and what it was like to buy a couple fancy dresses.
Rachel Simon's poetry had us laughing and nodding along.
Cheryl B. read next from her memoir in progress about leaving home, escaping New Jersey, and living on her own in New York City. I've heard what she read before, at her memoir show at Bluestockings last year, but the story is still poignant and interesting.
Theadora Fisher came down from Boston to read, and talked about what it was like to be gay (but not really out) in high school, and the beginning of the story of marrying her high school sweetheart. I love hearing her read her own work!
Last but not least, Melissa Febos read about Facebook stalking her first love. She was fantastic.
